Our people share their secrets to career longevity at CHG Healthcare

Cheryl Stephens, here in Iceland, is an avid traveler

What makes a job become a career? Cheryl Stephens will tell you her 20 years at CHG Healthcare have been all about challenge and growth. “Don’t be afraid to make mistakes!” she urges. “One of the best ways to grow is to try it!”

Christine Lambert echoes that advice. Celebrating 25 years with CHG staffing brand CompHealth, Christine says she didn’t originally plan to stay this long. For her, the development of our core values made the difference.

She says, “To see that vision and to recognize that our people are our culture and what makes us great made me want to stay.”

Cheryl agrees. “I truly respect our core values and the way that we approach the business,” Cheryl says.

Cheryl began her career on the nurse anesthetist team. Then she worked recruiting medical providers for a while and also did a stint in management.

“The management track wasn’t something I loved,” she admits.

Now working as a senior client representative she loves mentoring new reps and helping them learn the business. She also likes working with her clients — hospitals and other medical facilities — many of which she’s known for years.

Say yes to new things

Over two decades with CHG, Cheryl says she’s been able to grow professionally. “I’ve been able to try new specialties and work with new clients and providers. I’ve learned what I like and what I don’t like and what I am passionate about,” she explains.

Her passion and tenacity helped her land multiple trips to President’s Club, CHG’s annual incentive trip, as one of the company’s top selling reps.

Cheryl’s all about embracing change and encourages others to do the same. She urges, “Learn more about things that are beyond your little wheelhouse.”

Be willing to grow and learn

Christine Lambert, here with husband, Todd, says a perfect day would include fly fishing and golf.

Over the years, Christine has worked in a number of roles both on the sales and non-sales sides of our business, as well as in leadership and individual contributor roles.

“Every move I made was because I wanted to grow and develop and learn more about the business,” she says.

Besides gaining a better understanding of the company’s processes, Christine says she was fortunate to have the opportunity to learn from so many different leaders. “Each one has helped me grow and develop,” she shares.

Put in the work and seek feedback

Christine believes career growth at CHG hinges on two important principles: “You have to want to grow. You have to be willing to put in the work,” she says. “And you have to be open to feedback.”

She recommends asking a trusted friend for their take on the feedback you received. They can sometimes help you spot behaviors or attitudes you may have overlooked. She says, “You know that person cares about you and wants you to do well. That makes it a lot easier to listen and accept feedback.”
