Making a Difference: Weatherby volunteers help feed local community

feeding-south-fl-600p.jpg For about a dollar, you can buy a cup of coffee or a pack of gum — or, if you work through the hunger-relief organization Feeding South Florida, you can provide six meals for people who are food insecure. Feeding South Florida distributes more than 40 million pounds of food per year and feeds more than 780,000 people in southern Florida. They needed some help, so our Weatherby Healthcare's Fort Lauderdale, Fla., office stepped in. Our Weatherby wonder team of eight used their Volunteer Time Off* to inspect more than 13,000 pounds of food, sort more than 9,000 pounds and help provide more than 8,000 meals to Floridians struggling to put food on the table. "It was a learning and humbling experience," notes Leslie Young, a payroll manager at Weatherby who participated in this event. "And at the same time, we felt happy that we were able to contribute in our own small way." This is just the start of a relationship between Weatherby employees and Feeding South Florida. "We all want to do it again with a larger group," Leslie says. *Each calendar year, CHG offers eight hours of paid VTO to our employees to give back to the community by volunteering for a nonprofit organization of their choosing.
